Malmesbury School Raleigh Expedition to India 2011

IMPORTANT: Very poor weather predictions have led to the planned car wash, on 26th November, being postponed. A new date will be set as soon as possible.

Car Washing at Malmesbury School - 26th November 8.15am - 3.30pm

These are the briefing notes for the Car wash organised at Malmesbury School on Friday 26th November during the staff training day.

The following students volunteered, or had their services volunteered, at the last meeting :

Hannah Farci and Ellen Fitzgerald - IBL, Learning Support, Teaching Assistants, Support Team, Students
Nicole Hitchins and Fran Badham - Design Technology
Becky Wilson and Luke Furneaux - Maths
Bethan Gwyn and Sian Hughes - English
Rosie Petit and Harriet Byrne - Science
Imogen Carss and Julia Smith - Humanities
James Steel and Rob Hinwood - Creative Arts
Barney Kenny and David Cooke - Admin Corridor and Reception.

I have agreed with Mr Elton that we should have everyone there at 9am but we will also need a smaller number, say 6, there at 8.15am so that we can get cars parked in the right places on the playground and also set up the car washing equipment.  Volunteers to me please.

We have been given pemission to use the polayground on the left as you drive into the school.  It has a tap available and also slopes down towards a drain.  As cars appear on site a member of the Raleigh team will be on hand to divert all cars displaying the voucher to the left and send those without straight on or into the staff car park.  Someone will also be available to sell vouchers to those who want one on the day.  At least two people will be needed on the playgound to organise the parking, keeping a workable space between cars and also preventing people parking too far away from the tap and drain.

Mr Elton has kindly agreed to send an email to all staff in the next couple of days and David Cooke will be taking in copies of posters for Mr Elton to display in the staff room.  Copies will also go to the Main Admin Office and the Raleigh noticeboard.

The email to staff reads :

Get your car cleaned for just £5 during the forthcoming Training Day.

The Malmesbury School Raleigh Expedition Team, by kind permission of Mr Gilson, will wash your car for just £5 on Friday 26th November.  Vouchers will be on sale from members of the Raleigh Team during the next two weeks.  Buy a voucher, display it on your windscreen on the 19th and you will be able to park your car in a cleaning bay and concentrate on the day confident that, when it is over, your car will be gleaming.  It's an offer that you cannot afford to ignore.

Further information can be gleaned from Mr Elton or from David Cooke (12FE), Rob Hinwood (12SB) and Barney Kenny (12FE)

Bethan Gwyn and Sian Hughes - English
Rosie Petit and Harriet Byrne - Science

Barny Kenny and David Cooke - Admin Corridor and Reception.

Many thanks

The Raleigh Team

A copy of the poster is attached in a PDF format (click here to download) and can be printed out to help you in collecting cars.

The vouchers are also attached as a PDF file (click here to download).  There are four vouchers to a sheet of A4.  Check to see how many people there are in your alloted departments and then print out the vouchers accordingly.  Please make it clear that they must be displayed clearly in windscreens on the 26th if the car is to be cleaned. Please be aware of non teaching staff who should also be offered the chance of having their vehicles cleaned - canteen and caretaking staff for instance.

Each person cleaning will need to bring with them: a bucket; at least one sponge and at least one cloth. Given the likely weather, warm clothes and some sort of waterproofs might not be a bad idea.  I will try to arrange an area where we can sit, rest, warm and dry out during the day.

The training day ends at 3pm or thereabouts.  I would hope that we would have got all of the cars cleaned well before then.  I suggest that all monies be collected centrally and then I will distribute them according to how long people were there during the day doing the cleaning.

Good luck and see you on the 26th.

Graham Cooke
